The Future Is Psychedelic — Reflections from a Meaningful Dialogue

Recently, I had the privilege of speaking at The Future Is Psychedelic (?), a thought-provoking event hosted by The Maudsley Psychedelic Society. It was an opportunity to share ideas about The Psychedelic Experience Clinic and engage in deep, grounded conversation with clinicians, practitioners, researchers and curious community members.

Events like this remind us how powerful shared inquiry can be — especially in a space as emerging, nuanced and human as psychedelics.

Why This Field Needs Thoughtful Voices

Interest in psychedelic-assisted experiences and therapies has grown rapidly. As that happens, it’s more important than ever to approach this work not with hype, but with care, integrity and reflection.

At The Future Is Psychedelic (?), people from diverse backgrounds came together to explore:

  • How to support safe, compassionate experiences, not just isolated moments

  • Why integration and ongoing support matter for wellbeing

  • How we can ensure access remains ethical and inclusive

These are not easy conversations, but they’re the ones that will shape this work for the better — beyond trends or buzzwords.

What I’m Taking Forward

What resonated most from the event was the quality of connection and curiosity — honest discussion rooted in lived experience, evidence and care.

Here are a few reflections that continue to guide my thinking:

1. Integration Is Essential

The psychedelic experience itself is only part of the journey. Supporting people before, during and after an experience with thoughtful integration practices is vital to lasting wellbeing.

2. Compassion Comes First

Whether in clinical spaces or community discussion forums, coming from a place of empathy and safety ensures that people feel seen, respected and understood.

3. Shared Learning Strengthens the Field

The future of psychedelics isn’t determined by any single voice — it’s shaped by collaboration, respectful exchange and shared human curiosity.

A Collective Journey Forward

The conversation sparked at The Future Is Psychedelic (?) was not about prediction, but possibility — about asking together what kind of future we want for this work, grounded in ethics, inclusivity and care.

I’m grateful for everyone who joined the discussion, shared their insights and asked thoughtful questions. These gatherings matter because they help shape not just what’s next, but what’s healthy, supportive and human.
